Yoleros

Things are not going to be easy for these three Dominicans trying to get to Puerto Rico using a Yola crossing the Mona passage. The majority of the vessels are make-shift, homemade boats poorly equipped for dangerous ocean currents. They are going to face risk of downing, dehydration, and violence. Many of them don't know how to swim and travel without life vests.

Yoleros is a theater play written by Alex Vásquez Escaño and directed by Martín Balmaceda. The three "Yoleros" are Modesto 'Flako" Jimenez, Sully Bonnelly and Mathia Vargas

I have the honor to be invited to be part of the production team as their photographer. I was an immense pleasure to be involved in the project and I really wish that every theater company have the talent and commitment this one has. Here is the result of such work:

The play has some extra runs programmed for the rest of the year. I will be publish the date and location when I know more information about it.

Don't miss it.

You and Me - A British bitter-sweet physical comedy with a Spanish touch

Last July I had the chance to photograph the PAM Festival organized annually by IATI Theater.

One of the eight productions of the festival was You and Me by Little Soldier Productions written by Roger Simeon, adapted and directed by Bryony Shanahan. The play was leaded by two great actresses: Mercè Ribot & Patricia Rodríguez.

Every time I have the chance to take pictures of theater productions I can't stop observing how much the camera can get deep into the characters and show the drama they live. I also believe that the black and white treatment of the pictures lets focus on what is happening to the actors putting aside some distracting factors around them.
